Mr Simon Gane

Consultant rhinologist and ENT surgeon, FRCS (ORL-HNS) MPhil MBChB DOHNS.

Mr Simon Gane is a consultant rhinologist and ENT surgeon. He holds NHS posts at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and sees private patients in Wimpole Street.

Special interest

His clinical and research focus is the nose and sinuses: chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps, disorders of smell, and nasal, sinus and anterior skull base surgery. He sees the full range of ear, nose and throat conditions alongside this specialist interest.

Research

Mr Gane has a research background in the science of smell, with an MPhil from UCL and a wide body of published work on olfaction and chronic rhinosinusitis. He is an Honorary Lecturer at the UCL Ear Institute and a principal investigator on treatment studies in nasal polyps.

Research and publications

Beyond the practice

Mr Gane is a trustee of the Rhinology and Laryngology Research Fund, which supports ENT research and the delivery of care in low- and middle-income countries.

He was a founder trustee of AbScent, the smell-disorders charity established to support patients with anosmia and parosmia, which played a leading role in raising awareness of post-viral smell loss during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
